28th Annual Conference of PAKISTAN SOCIETY OF NEUROSURGEONS

The 28th Annual Conference was organized by the Liaquat National Hospital and Medical College, Karachi from 21st Nov to 22nd Nov 2015.

The honored guest speakers for the conference were Prof. Yoko Kato (Japan), Prof. Edward Benzel (USA), Mehmet Zileli (Turkey), Mahmood Qureshi (Kenya), Prof. Kang-taek Lim (South Korea).

Lectures were conducted in remembrance of Prof. OV Jooma (AVM Surgery), chaired by Prof Yoko Kato; Prof. Bashir Ahmed Memorial Lectures (Motion Preservation), chaired by Prof. Edward Benzel; Prof. Iftikhar Ali Raja Memorial Lectures (Stem cell in spinal injury), chaired by Prof. PS Ramani; and Prof. Aftab Qureshi Memorial Lectures (Trans-sacral Lumbar Decompression) chaired by Prof. Kang-taek Lim.

The two-day conference was composed of a series of lectures and presentations. A discussion session was also held to debate on the endoscopic vs open approaches. Evidence based interactive sessions were also conducted on conservative or surgical treatment for spondylolisthesis. A small segment educational aspect of Neurosurgery was held in which the neurosurgical training to the young doctors across the globe was discussed.

Participants from all over Pakistan contributed to their poster and paper presentations which were well appreciated by the guest faculty.

An Executive Committee meeting was held during the lunch break on the first day of the conference. The members of this executive committee were Prof. Shabbir Lehri (President of PSN), Prof. Anjum Habib Vohra (Senior Vice President), Prof. Mumtaz Ali (Vice President), Dr. Riaz Ahmed Raja (General Secretary, Dr. Aamir Dawood (Joint Secretary), Dr. Nasir Raza Awaz (Inf/Web Secretary) and Dr. Muhammad Anwar Chaudary (Treasurer).

The first day of the conference was followed by a Gala Dinner at the PC Hotel with the Honorable President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan being the chief guest. His Highness greeted the delegates with hospitality and appreciated the efforts of the organizing team in conducting the conference and helping to teach the aspiring neurosurgeons of tomorrow. Shields were presented by the President to the invited guest faculty at this prestigious occasion.

The Annual General Body Meeting of the Pakistan Society of Neurosurgeons was held at the end of the 2nd day during which Prof. Anjum Habib Vohra was elected as the New President of the Society.

The second day of the conference was followed by a trip to Taxila and Islamabad to show the cultural heritage of Pakistan to the delegates.
